SEIU Illinois State Council: Felipe Luciano Book Release Discussion

As we kick off this year's Puerto Rican Festivities the SEIU Illinois State Council will host activist, journalist, poet, and author Felipe Luciano, one of the original members of the Young Lords, will discuss his newly released book Flesh and Spirit, which speaks about his experience as a member of the Young Lords. There will also be free copies of the books on a first-come, first-served basis. You do not want to miss this!

SEIU Local 1 Scholarships

SEIU Local 1 is awarding 12 Local 1 Scholarships Funds to eligible high school seniors attending a 2 or 4-year college whose parent or legal guardians are Local 1 members.

Local 1 also is awarding ONE Thomas Balanoff Young Leader Scholarship to an eligible high school senior attending a 2 or 4-year college. This scholarship requires an essay highlighting your impact on the community and society. The deadline for both applications is on April 7, 2023.

Every day millions of immigrant parents and workers get up in the morning to go to work or to leave our children in school. Many of us have to do it by foot, using public transportation, or we ask for a ride because we don’t want to run any risks. Many other take the risk and drive because we have no other choice - holding our breath the whole way.
