SEIU Local 1 Recording Secretary

Yanela Sims has worked for SEIU Local 1 since 2003, and has worn a multitude of hats! From Organizer, Grievance Representative, to Southern Ohio Coordinator to the current Ohio State Director, Yanela knows what it means to work for working people, inside and out. 

Yanela is inspired by Local 1 members’ drive to constantly push forward, and to do better for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Yanela is an immigrant – moved to the U.S. when she was 8 years old - and she is the first Black state director for Local 1 in Ohio.
