Swissport Cargo Workers at Chicago O’Hare International Airport to Strike over Unfair Labor Practices

Workers will be joined by SEIU Local 1 President Genie Kastrup, SEIU Illinois State Council and SEIU HCIIMK President Greg Kelley, CWA Local 4201 Executive Board Member Carolyn Marsalek, Aldermen Ramirez-Rosa, Villegas, Taylor, Dowell and Tabares.

CHICAGO, IL — Tomorrow morning, Thursday, December 8 at 11:00 AM - two weeks ahead of one of the busiest travel days for U.S. airports -  Swissport Cargo workers at Chicago O’Hare International Airport will be walking off the job in an Unfair Labor Practice strike. Nationwide activity is planned at airports controlling 45% of all U.S. domestic air travel and 65% of all U.S. travel through major hubs.

This action comes after Swissport Cargo workers filed official complaints with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) two weeks ago over the unsafe working conditions they face. Instead of remedying this issue, Swissport Cargo wrongfully retaliated against a worker for speaking up and fighting for union jobs that would have protected them from this issue. Workers from Swissport Cargo, SEIU Local 1, and other Chicago workers are coming together to hold Swissport Cargo accountable for their mistreatment of workers and support the workers on their ULP strike.
